Martinez ‘100%’ certain Barkley will stay at Everton in January

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that Ross Barkley will not be leaving the club in January.

The highly rated 20-year-old has been linked with a £50 million move to Manchester United, after proving to be one of the Premier League’s outstanding performers in the first half of the season.

However, Martinez has ruled out a move for the youngster, whose impressive displays for the Toffees have seen him rewarded with three England caps.

“(Barkley) has a long-term contract. The first half of he season has been a real joy to see him grow and the second half of the season will be even better,” the Spanish manager said.

“There is nothing to comment on. The stability we have from a financial point of view allows us to make football decisions and this January window is important for us to make sure we kick on and finish stronger than we started.”

Barkley will be hopeful of continuing his fine form for Everton as looks to a seal a place in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup in Brazil next June.

The Toffees have made an excellent start to the season, and are currently fourth in the Premier League, having lost only two matches, fewer than any other club. They travel to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke on New Year’s Day.
